512 piecitos colorados in 8 schools in Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán, Misiones, Santiago del Estero, Mar del Plata, Mendoza, and Bahía Blanca.

Pioneer school of the project (2016), 18 children are taught there. Semi-arid rural area.

Location: Jujuy Province, in Puerta de Lipán, Tumbaya Department. It is located in a semi-arid rural area.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: The building had no electrical installations, drinking water or toilets. It has been completely restored.

Socio-economic characteristics: There is no formal economy. Families subsist off the cultivation of kitchen gardens, breeding and selling livestock and from craft fabric production.

Current situation:

  • In this school, as part of the Nutritional Formation process, we give Nutritional Guides to promote the healthy nutrition of children.
  • Musical talents are found among this school's students as they count with a music group that releases a cd each year.
  • In addition, this educational centre counts with a sports centre for the promotion of sports among students through the Piecitos Colorados Program.

Pioneer school of the project (2006), 9 children are taught there Vineyard area.

Location: Salta Province, in Las Viñas, San Carlos Department. It is located in a rural area that is particularly difficult to access.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: A pioneer school in the project that gave rise in 2006 to a stage prior to Piecitos Colorados involving the patronage of schools. It was rebuilt entirely given that the previous building completely lacked the health and safety conditions required to carry out educational activities.

Socio-economic characteristics: Very poor families that live off rural jobs or the breeding of goats and sheep. There is no village as such, rather groups of houses standing on the hills. The children have from a quarter of an hour to a two-hour walk to go to school.

It is a multi-class school (a single teacher teaches all class levels).

Current situation:
  • The school has solar panels, Internet and an electric power unit for any emergency.
  • The school is currently on phase 2 of the project - Nutrition Instruction
  • With a view to developing pupils’ creativity craft, confectionery and carpentry workshops have been set up.

Incorporated into the project in 2007, 25 children are taugth there. Miuntains area.

Location: Tucumán Province, Tafí del Valle Department. The "Coronel José Ignacio Murga” hostel school stands in a mountainous area of difficult access.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: Educational centre in very bad condition, it needed urgent attention. Complete reconstruction of the building.

Socio-economic characteristics: Pupils’ homes are quite far away from the school, so the pupils stay at the hostel from Monday to Friday.

Current situation:

  • In 2013 a start was made on phase 2 of the project - Nutrition Instruction - by implementing the “Nutrition Instruction Guide, Piecitos Colorados – Argentina” and by presenting it to pupils, teachers and family members alike.
  • This school has a sports centre in which to implement phase four of Piecitos Colorados, Promoting sport.
  • Thanks to LAN airlines, pupils had the opportunity of flying for the first time on a trip to Buenos Aires.

 

Incorporated into the project in 2008, the 110 children taught there are the ones after whom our project is named. Located near the Iguazú falls.

Location: Misiones Province, in Colonia Delicia, El Dorado Department (near the Iguazú Falls).

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: The original school was made of wood and had no toilets.

Socio-economic characteristics: This is a very poor area in which 90% of the parents live off temporary jobs far from their homes. The school is the only socialising space.

The adult community where the school is located is strongly committed to the school and the education of their children.

Current situation:
  • By incorporating the school into the initiative, a new school was built with  sturdier materials  sepcially in the bathrooms and the kitchen.
  • Sewing workshops, literacy clases for parents, and computer classes are held at the school.
  • This school counts with the Nutritional Guides as part of the Nutritioanl phase of the Project, to promote a healthy nutrition among the students.

Incorporated into the project in 2009, 73 children are taught there.

Location: Río Hondo Department, Santiago del Estero Province.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: Building reforms in toilets and the kitchen are required. No drinking water in the area.

Socio-economic characteristics: Community of very few inhabitants, the majority of whom are quite poor. They work at livestock breeding on a small scale, basket-making and coal production. There is no social organisation in the village.

Current situation:
  • A computer room and a kindergarten room have been opened there. Moreover, a kitchen garden has been started there which is watered by a drip irrigation system.
  • In 2013 a start was made on the Nutrition Instruction phase by presenting the “Nutrition Instruction Guides” to pupils, teachers and family members alike.

 

Incorporated into the project in 2010, 93 deaf and hypoacusis children are taught there.

Location: Mar del Plata city, Buenos Aires Province.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: Serious problems with the foundations, class rooms and lunch room in extremely bad condition, numerous leaks, cracked walls.

Socio-economic characteristics: Pupils with hearing disabilities from needy families. High risk area due to urban delinquency rate (thefts, continuous window breaking).

Current situation:
  • The centre’s serious building problems were remedied thus affording pupils and teachers greater safety.
  • Delivery of hearing aids and an impedance meter*.
  • In 2013, a start was made on the nutrition surveys as part of the Nutrition Instruction phase, with the results of which a specific nutrition guide will be adapted to the on-the-ground reality of the school and its pupils.

* An impedance meter is used to do ear, nose and throat examinations, the purpose of which is to measure the impedances and resistances of the patient’s hearing system, particularly the middle ear.

Incorporated into the project in 2011, 42 children are taught there. Vineyard area.

Location: Mendoza, Colonia San Jorge - La Dormida, Santa Rosa Department. Vineyard area.

Characteristics of the infrastructure found: Bad condition in general.

Socio-economic characteristics: Low socio-economic level in the community, a lot of families receive government social welfare benefits while others work on-and-off. There are very few full-time workers.

The educational centre also serves as a hostel given that the community is very scattered, with pupils often living 20 km away.

Current situation:

  • Complete rehabilitation work has been done and a new kitchen and a computer room have been added.
  • Actions of Prosegur volunteers, We Are All Piecitos Colorados, have resulted in a hen coop and a kitchen garden.
  • In 2013, a start was made on the nutrition surveys as part of the Nutrition Instruction phase, with the results of which a specific nutrition guide will be adapted to the on-the-ground reality of the school and its pupils.

Incorporada al proyecto en 2016, educa a 157 menores. Zona ruraL.

Ubicación: Mendoza, Colonia San Jorge - La Dormida, departamento de Santa Rosa. Zona de viñedos.

Características de la infraestructura encontrada: La escuela necesita una reconstrucción de todo el edificio: arreglar los techos, suelos y paredes; reparar los baños y la cocina, así como ampliar el tamaño del salón-comedor.

Características socio-económicas:  La comunidad donde se ubica la escuela cuenta con recursos económicos muy escasos y un alto índice de desempleo. Las familias viven en su mayoría de subsidios, con núcleos desintegrados y situaciones de violencia familiar.

Situación actual

  • La escuela fue seleccionada en el primer trimestre del año 2015.
  • Se está comenzando a trabajar en ella y, hasta el momento, se ha construido un salón de usos múltiples.
