The Future of the Classroom: Empowering Piecitos Teachers with Artificial Intelligence
According to the report "AI and the Future of Education: Disruptions, Dilemmas and Orientations" (UNESCO, 2025), education is experiencing a revolution comparable to the creation of the printing press due to Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, in this scenario, technology is not the end, but the means.
AI opens the doors to the personalization of learning for each student regardless of their context, guaranteeing access to content that enhances their talent.
Training teachers in Artificial Intelligence applied to the classroom
With this assumption, and convinced that the work of teachers must first be strengthened in order to transform student learning, in 2024 we implemented the first AI training project applied to the classroom in schools attached to our Development Cooperation program, Piecitos Colorados, in Latin America.
Along with Rasti, our partner in robotics and programming in the region, we designed the first level: "Empowering teaching with AI" where teachers explored how generative AI manages to complement the pedagogical approach in class. In addition, as part of the course, teachers had to launch their own initiative by applying AI together with their students. The proposals ranged from the design of the institutions' websites to the configuration of leisure-educational activities that related several subjects around the same topic. Creativity and ingenuity were present in all the ideas.
Furthermore, in 2025, we consolidated the program with the launch of a second level: "Integrating AI in the classroom", which focused on specific pedagogical applications from initial education to higher education. Teachers had to design innovative activities related to art, literature, and research tailored to students' interests. Thus, the students illustrated stories and created school routes with technologies such as Minecraft.
This experience in our rural school shows that technology, well applied, opens up real opportunities to awaken creativity, critical thinking and scientific vocations in contexts where it seemed impossible before. - Yuliana Montoya, leading teacher of the project at the Nuevo Horizonte Rural Educational Institution.
Breaking the digital divide from within
After two editions, more than 127 teachers have been trained in AI, allowing them to integrate it on a regular basis in the classroom, guaranteeing a sustainable educational transformation through new pedagogical methodologies that optimize their time and help them personalize teaching.
By empowering teachers with Artificial Intelligence tools, we don't just update the classroom; We sow knowledge that takes root in the community. Because we are convinced that a prepared teacher is the definitive bridge for technology to become a real opportunity for equity and development.
