The Piecitos Reading Corner: an experience that sparks imagination and engagement

The initiative, developed in collaboration with Perú Champs, has succeeded in transforming children's relationship with books.

I have learned that reading can be a lot of fun. Now I know that reading is not only for learning, but also for imagining and dreaming.

Elías, student at the Piecitos Colorados school in Jaén.

His testimony sums up the spirit of our ‘Reading Corner’ project, an initiative developed in collaboration with Perú Champs that has succeeded in transforming children's relationship with books.

During June and July, 24 Prosegur volunteers – previously trained in literacy strategies – led four educational days in the regions of Puno, Arequipa, Piura and Cajamarca, benefiting 150 students in grades 3 to 6. Through fun educational activities such as shared reading, exploring stories and creative crafts, interest in reading was encouraged in vulnerable communities.

The initiative also aimed to raise awareness among the students' families. To this end, talks were given to families on the key role they play in their children's reading development, strengthening the impact of the project beyond the classroom.

Results that inspire

  • 86% of students expressed high motivation to read.
  • 97% said they were satisfied with the experience.
  • 30% of volunteers had their first volunteering experience.
  • 465 books were collected by Prosegur employees and donated to the libraries of the Piecitos Colorados schools.

The project also achieved a 95% maximum rating from volunteers, reflecting the enthusiasm and commitment of our collaborators. ‘Sharing the moment with the children, listening to them and sparking their imagination through stories has made me realise how important this action is for them and, therefore, also for me,’ said one of the volunteers from Juliaca.

Education that transforms

This edition of the programme marks a milestone in its sustainability: it has grown from one pilot location in 2023 to four locations in 2025, consolidating strategic alliances and strengthening reading development from an early age.

At the Prosegur Foundation, we are aware of the power of alliances as a catalyst for change. The collaboration with Perú Champs and the commitment of our volunteers have shown that when purpose-driven organisations come together, the impact is multiplied.

Thanks to these kinds of synergies, today we reach more children, in more territories, with an educational proposal that sows opportunities from childhood. We will continue to work as a network, convinced that together we can transform realities.
