Piecitos Colorados transforms a rural school in Uruguay

The Prosegur Foundation promotes social change in Canelones through its educational programme Piecitos Colorados.

Education is undoubtedly one of the most powerful tools for transforming realities. At Fundación Prosegur, we firmly believe in its ability to open up opportunities, promote equity and build brighter futures.

That is why we enthusiastically celebrate the incorporation of school N°13 ‘Rosa Fourment de Cassina’, located in Canelones (Uruguay), to our Piecitos Colorados Development Cooperation programme.

Education that boosts local development

Piecitos Colorados was born in 2006 with the firm purpose of improving the quality of life of children in vulnerable contexts, putting the school at the centre of change. Its comprehensive model encompasses the rehabilitation of infrastructure, the promotion of healthy eating habits, the promotion of sport and, above all, educational improvement adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.

In Canelones, the process began with the delivery of school materials and footwear for the 80 pupils who attend the centre in extended time mode. In addition, a corporate volunteering day was organised with the participation of more than 50 Prosegur employees, together with partner Koopa, strengthening the ties between the school community and our professionals.

An intervention model with real impact

The programme does not interfere with official curricula, but enhances the key competences demanded by today's environments: critical thinking, creativity, problem solving and effective communication. Through new methodologies and didactic tools, we seek to reduce the educational gap and ensure more innovative and inclusive teaching.

This action is part of our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 4 (quality education), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 17 (strategic partnerships).

United for a shared cause

The choice of school was the result of a participatory process, in which factors such as the socio-economic context, the number of pupils and the degree of involvement of the teaching staff were taken into account. This methodology reflects one of the essential principles of Piecitos Colorados: co-responsibility.

Currently, the programme is present in 8 countries in Latin and Central America, with more than 5,400 children benefiting from it and 39 schools involved. Each new centre that joins reinforces a network of transformation that extends throughout the region, and school N°13 in Canelones represents a new milestone on this path.

Committed to the future

At Fundación Prosegur we continue working to generate a positive and sustainable impact on people's lives. Projects such as Piecitos Colorados remind us that solidarity, innovation and education are key pillars for building a fairer society.

Every step counts. And in Canelones, we have just taken a very important one.
